Housekeeping

Reports to: Guest Services Manager

Status: Full-time; Non-Exempt

Compensation: $15.00 - $18.00/Hour: Non-Exempt

Position Overview

As a part of the Guest Services team, housekeepers help to ensure guests have a pleasant and memorable experience by ensuring accommodations are clean and welcoming when guests arrive. Housekeeping assists with the day-to-day activities of a multi-faceted program which primary responsibilities include the general maintenance, basic cleaning, deep cleaning, improvements and upkeep of Whiterock Conservancy grounds and facilities. This position is responsible for maintaining and ensuring the guest accommodations and surrounding areas are organized, clean and without litter, picking up garbage, painting as requested and other minor repairs or upkeep. These duties are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. The position must be self-motivated with excellent time management skills and comfortable with both individual and group work, and willing to work with the public.


Physical demands of the position include navigating uneven surfaces, stairs, tight spaces, hallways and basement accesses while performing repetitive motions and lifting and carrying heavy loads. The work environment will vary with duties that require both indoor and outdoor work. The Housekeeping personnel must act in WRC’s best interest and carry out responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies, programs and procedures. This position must be a team player, maintain a positive attitude, good communication skills and be respectful and professional towards other staff members, volunteers and guests.


Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Timely, reliable and consistent physical attendance is an essential function of this position.

  • Weekend and Holiday work required

  • Understand and enforce WRC Visitor Rules and Policies

  • Ensure adherence to quality standards and health and safety regulations

  • General awareness of safety concerns and reporting issues to supervisor

  • Check functionality of safety systems (example: fire alarms)

  • Assumes primary responsibility in maintaining and cleaning WRC facilities

  • Scouting and monitoring Whiterock guest areas for cleanliness and guest safety.

  • Participate in general maintenance needs including yard landscaping, trash and litter removal

  • Assist with special events, such as weddings, 3rd party events and special tours

  • Understand and utilize reservation programs for facilities including: InnRoads, AirBnB, Vrbo etc…

  • Assist with Whiterock guest services activities as needed, including urgent needs or requests, etc.

  • Maintenance and installation of light bulbs, air filters, etc.

  • Inspecting and reporting damages to facilities, interior and exterior

  • Participate in various projects and development (example: renovations)

  • Work with WRC staff to identify repair and maintenance needs in guest accommodations, event venues and office sites.

  • Be proactive in researching, identifying, and sourcing cost effective solutions.

  • Collaborate with WRC staff, interns and volunteers as needed

  • Perform other duties and activities as assigned


  • Clean accommodations before and after a guest arrive. Accommodations include any site that is listed for use by outside entities as determined by the Executive Director.

o Perform general sweeping, scrubbing, and mopping of hardwood, laminate, or tiled floors as needed

o Vacuum and clean carpets and perform further treatments such as shampoo or stain removal as needed

o Dispose of trash from bins and containers

o Dust and polish furniture and room accessories

o Scrub sinks, basins, bathtubs, showers, and toilets in private and public bathrooms

o Change linens and gather used linens such as sheets or towels for laundering

o Ensure all laundry is completed in a timely manner to reduce mold and mildew

o Clean windows, glass surfaces, mirrors, and counters as needed

o Other duties as provided by Guest Services Manager

  • Clean Whiterock offices and employee spaces as assigned per a determined schedule. Whiterock offices and employee spaces include any site that is used by Whiterock employees as determined by the Executive Director.

  • Maintain all cleaning equipment, supplies, and products; ensure safe and sanitary storage and care of products

  • Work effectively and respectfully with co-workers.


Secondary Duties

  • Assist in on and offsite WRC events and educational programming

  • Collaborate with WRC staff to organize and work volunteer group projects and activities

  • Attend all-staff trainings, regular team check-ins and periodic reviews

  • Participate in the recruitment and coordination of prospective volunteers

  • Support Whiterock guests by giving directions, answering questions, and providing resources

  • Mitigate immediate safety risks at guest facilities and help with all-hands-on-deck projects when needed

  • Training or other development opportunities

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


Preferred Minimum Qualifications - (Education and Experience):

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Work experience or combination of coursework and work experience considered

  • Excellent working knowledge of cleaning appliances and their operations and proper use of cleaning agents

  • Desire to work for a nonprofit organization in a rural setting and live within a 30min commute

  • Strong desire to work with the public in the services sector

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Ability to use own vehicle for business related activities (reimbursable under Whiterock Conservancy travel policy).

  • Ability to use personal cell phone (with reimbursement) to stay in contact with Whiterock Conservancy staff, volunteers, guests and visitors as needed.

  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends, willingness to travel for short periods of time

  • Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions

  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks

  • Previous cleaning experience and attention to detail

  • Ability to work independently and follow written, verbal and technical directions

  • Ability to work independently and as a positive team member

  • Excellent time management and priority skills

  • Excellent communication and listening skills

  • Professional, confidential, respectful and reliable conduct

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
